How did the Wax Lyrical brand start?

The brand has been around for many years, and was actually first established in England, back in 1980. The founders, the Williams family, saw the potential in the home fragrancing while running their hotel & restaurant. Upon realising this opportunity in the fragrance marketplace, they began manufacturing candles under the name of ‘Nice Things’. By 1990 they relocated the business to accommodate mass production, at Wax Lyrical’s current site, which back then was officially opened by the late Princess Diana. However, in 2006 the brand experienced serious financial difficulties and was acquired and rebranded by owner Mike Armstead. In 2016, an £18m cash deal saw the Portmeirion group acquire the entire share capital of Wax Lyrical's parent company, Lighthouse Holdings. Today, Wax Lyrical fragrances set the scene for moments to be wax lyrical about, inspired by their home in the English Lake District.
