The first recorded instance of people drinking
tea was during the reign of the Emperor Shennong in the year 2737 BC. It's recorded in The Classics of
Tea that 2 leaves fell from a burning bush and landed in the cup of hot
water the great Emperor was drinking from. Naturally he was impressed by the coincidental infusion and the rest is history. It's entirely possible that people were drinking
tea for a long time before this royal epiphany but never managed to write about it.
