Pistachio nuts (Pistacia vera) are the seeds of the Anacardiaceae trees and shrubs, which also comprise cashews. They are native to Iran, as well as parts of Western and Central Asia.
They can be consumed as a stand alone snack when you’re feeling peckish, or used in your home-baked recipes. They complement cheesecake, muffins, cupcakes and quick breads.
Most nutritionists recommend that you should not consume any more than 56 grams of pistachios a day. Those individuals diagnosed with a fructan intolerance should approach pistachios with caution, as they may cause stomach upset.
Pistachios are considered to be among some of the most healthy foods on the planet, which are fully loaded with nutrients and heart-healthy fats. They contain more antioxidants than every other nut and seed, with the exception of pecans and walnuts. Pistachios are full of fibre too, as well as Potassium and unsaturated fats, which are linked to healthy blood pressure and Cholesterol levels.
It is considered safe for women to consume pistachios in moderation during Pregnancy (no more than 24 pistachios). Not only are they filling and satisfying, they may also offer varying nutritional benefits for both mother and baby.
